"The UNIT is about a third of the price of the ROLL Folcrom, and does the same thing, minus some unnecessary routing switches. While this product is not going to be as clean as an active summing amp, it does provide an interesting sound, which, for many musical applications may be just the kind of thing you are looking for."

Just Exactly What is Analog Summing?  Check Out This Great Article

Emerson Maningo, published this outstanding tutorial on the subject. "There has been a lot of debate whether analog summing mixes sound better than the digital summing. This tutorial would serve as an introductory tutorial for beginners in knowing what an analog summing mixer is. This will not prove whether analog summing mixes sound better than digital or recommend that you switch to analog summing for all of your mixes." ...more

Read the Hands on Review of the Micro-Unit By Jon        Chappel,  Senior Editor at Harmony Central

A common practice in DAW recording these days is not to take all the multitrack material internally to the stereo bus, but to bring certain stems out via your interface’s analog outputs and bring them back into the DAW through the inputs, going to the stereo mixdown bus that way. This avoids a number-crunching burden on the computer’s processor that is not ideal for the best sound. Instead of internally mixing down, say, 8 channels of drums, the DAW now has to accommodate only two, originating from the outputs of the summing mixer. Unit Audio supplies a helpful graphic that shows the routing of this scenario.

Baffle-Unit...tame your space

Picture

  • Baffle-Units are portable adjustable sound panels for treating room acoustics.  These hand crafted acoustic tuning baffles of solid oak and proof tested open cell urethane foam are equally at home in a project space or a professional studio.
  • Note: The Baffle-Unit baffles are meant for sound absorption. They will not block sound from going through them. They work great for calming down full-frequency waves and echoes in normal size rooms.
